Here at SouthCoast we have a conviction that a change of pace, plus a change of place, equals a change of perspective. Miami is a dynamic city that according to National Geographic is the most diverse city in America. With over 400,000 college students in South Florida, some of the best weather you will find anywhere on the planet, and one of the biggest metro areas in the nation, Miami is a great place to call home, or live for a season.

We have two different internship programs; we like to call these our Protégé Programs. Our first Protégé program lasts one year, and the other lasts three months during the summer.

Our heart is to help you find your place in the kingdom of God, and help discern God’s will for your life. Our philosphy in ministry is not to tell you what to do, how to do it, or where to do it; but to add value to you in such a way that it will equip you in your own walk with God to help you determine the how, where, and what, God is calling you to do.

Maybe you just graduated from college, and want to see if full-time ministry is right for you. Maybe you are thinking about planting a church, and want some hands on experience to prepare for your future as a church planter. Either way, our year long program would be perfect for you.

Maybe you are a college student and think when you graduate you might want to go into full time ministry. Maybe you would like to gain practical ministry experience before making that decision. If so, then our three month summer Protege Progam would be a great option. This program isn’t just for those considering ministry as a vocation. Everyone can benefit from our three month internship, and learn to be better equipped to minister in the field God has called you.

We promise, as a protege you aren’t “second class,” but are viewed as the equivalent of one of our full time staff. You won’t be making coffee runs for the pastor, he doesn’t even like coffee, which has actually made some people question his call to be a pastor, but he likes to do things a little different sometimes.

FAQ's

You will need to download our application from this website and fill it out. E-Mail it to our lead pastor, Ross Middleton at ross@southcoastchurch.tv. We will also schedule a phone appointment after we receive your application to go over your application, and ask any additional questions we may have.

There is no cost to the Protege Program, but you will need to raise, or supply, the finances for you and your family.

Most importantly; a heart after God. We do our best, by the grace of God to create an atmosphere and culture in our church where people follow God passionately, and are sold out to him and his purposes. We think ministry should be fun, and doing life together with our church should be a blast. That’s one reason why having a good sense of humor is deathly serious. If you didn’t think that sentence was funny, this may not be the internship for you! Just kidding, but not really. All that to say, we believe in working hard and playing hard. Having some previous leadership and/or ministry experience is definitely a plus. Being flexible, having a good attitude, and good interpersonal skills are definitely a must to survive in ministry. We feel it is important to have good relational chemistry with you, and we weigh that with every decision.

Our goals are to provide experiences and training that are necessary for ministering in today’s culture. We want to provide an environment to lead, take risks and get some experience in ministry.

They differ in the year long and 3 month programs. Check the corresponding timeframe to see which ones are offered during our two protege experiences. They are listed below.

Its technically not impossible to live in South Florida without a car, but Miami is a city of roads. It would be virtually impossible to get around without a car in this city. We would highly recommend that you have a car in Miami.

Our year long program runs from September-August, and our summer program runs from May 15th – August 15th.

At this time, we do not offer any programs with any higher learning institutions that could result in college credit. However, its a good question, so thanks for the idea!

Yes, you can do both. They are fairly different. Different books, different roles, different people, and different stages of life. All will make for a pretty different experience. If you come after your freshman year of college for the 3 month program and then again as a college graduate for the one year program, you will gain new insights and experiences. Being in ministry for one full calendar year will give you more of a feel for being in ministry than doing it for a few months. You will also be more relationally connected into the church than someone in a 3 month position. We think both are unique, different programs that can add a lot of value to you.

Currently we do not have housing to provide for our protege’s, so you would be responsible for finding housing. Obviously we would do everything in our power to help you find a great place to live.

We would really like for all of our Protege’s to be full time. We think that to get the full experience and feel for the grind of ministry, it is important that a Protege be full time. But being part-time is not a deal breaker. We would be willing to work with someone who had a unique situation.
